Dear Festividder,

Thank you for signing up to vid one of my fandoms! This is my first year in festivids, and I can't wait to see what you make.  If you already have an idea you're excited for, feel free to stop reading right now! (Actually if you are planning to vid The Neverending Story, I do have one specific scene I would prefer *not* to see, explained below.)

Please, use whatever music makes you excited about this vid. If you're looking for more guidance, I love old and new R&B, soul, reggae, a fair amount of country music pre-1995, 90's rap, and quite a lot of rock, punk, alternative, and indy rock music. I tend to dislike electronic music (but not all of it!), but I've seen plenty of great vids set to electronic music, so don't let that stop you if something electronicy gives you vid-farr. Anything that gives you vid-farr is definitely grounds to ignore the above altogether.

As for the fandoms themselves, I'll talk a little about what I love about them if that helps give you ideas, but don't limit yourself to what I bring up.

Big Eden (safety)
As a queer city girl who grew up in the rural Western US, this film just warms/melts my heart. Pike is undoubtedly my favorite character, but I love them all, and the warmth and love of this film.

Cradle Will Rock (safety)
I love most everything about this film. The themes of social justice and class struggle, the huge ensemble cast, the parallels between the musical-within-the-musical and the characters' lives, the music, the choreography, the cinematography... My favorite scene (of many!) is the montage knocking down Rivera's mural.

I Shot Andy Warhol (safety)
A lesser-known film by the director of American Psycho, starting Lilly Taylor as Valerie Solanas, the famous "feminist" author of the SCUM Manifesto. This film challenges me to see the world from the perspective of this only somewhat sympathetic protagonist, and does it remarkably well. It also offers amazing acting, some great 60's style, and unsettling, complex views on gender, sexuality, and feminism. One of my favorite aspects of the film is the comparisons it begs between Solanas's man-hating and Warhol's more socially acceptable misogyny, and that of both characters' general anti-social behavior.

Mark Does Stuff
I disagree with plenty of what Mark has to say, but his unending squee is simultaneously charming, amusing, and confounding. It walks the line between fannish love and performance thereof, which is interesting to me. I find his site addictive. Also, watching him watch BtVS's "The Gift" totally made me cry.

Maru the Cat
Cats are awesome! (So are dogs, BTW. I am totally for all the animals. Except sheep and centipedes, they suck.) And Maru is the cutest! I am seriously refraining from capslock/exclamation mark abuse, Mark-style, because kitty

Mary Poppins (safety)
One of the few beloved films from my childhood not involving animals as central characters (see above). My favorite parts are any scene involving Burt. I think there's a lot to poke fun at in this film, too, if you're so inclined. I can also imagine various critical, creepy, or disturbing interpretations, none of which would ruin the squee for me.

The Neverending Story
Um, apparently there are sequels? I haven't seen them, but feel free to use them if you want. Another childhood favorite: I loved the adventure and imagination of this movie. Morla! Falkor! Those scary lazer-eyed things! A creepy vid would be fine. I only have one request, which is that you don't include the horse death scene, as that moment was a minor trauma in my childhood and I still can't bear to watch it.

Thank you again for your vid! I can't wait to see it.

ETA: Actually, I also have one specific music request.  Please, please do not make a vid to a Tom Petty song.  I hate Tom Petty with a totally unreasonable fury.  Sorry. :/
