Sherlock 3x01: The Empty Hearse

After an epically slow download (why Australia, why?), I finally watched it. And I liked it better than I expected! Which, honestly, wasn't a lot. But it was fun, and I left feeling like I can enjoy the show for what it is -- something that is fun and stylish but lacking in charactery nourishment.
However,
cesperanza has put their finger on something I vaguely felt about the show but hadn't articulated, in terms of how it treats its audience. (Spoilers for this ep in that link.)
I also enjoyed
calvinahobbes' observations about John Watson's eternal coming out.

the way it didn't take itself seriously at all and focused on the human connections rather than the mystery.
True! There seemed to be a lot less, "look at this mystery, aren't we clever"-ness going on. Which I appreciated.
