on 7/6/13 09:46 pm (UTC)my favourite male character: Giles. He's amusing and smart and handsome and awesome in many ways. He's my favorite when he's being all "the father you never had" to Buffy, in way that's both caring *and* respectful. (That speech in "Innocence"! A Top 10 Fray-Moment in the series for sure.) But I am also extremely fond of Xander and Spike.
my favourite book/season/etc. Season 5. They are all amazing. But Season 5.
my favourite episode Back and forth between "The Gift" and "Once More With Feeling". The former for its character and thematic resonance throughout the whole damn series. The latter because it's my best favorite musical. Both for gorgeous writing, acting, set design, lighting, score, etc etc.
my favourite cast member Anthony Stewart Head and Amber Benson.
my favourite relationship: I don't have any hardcore 'ships on this show. The closest I come is Willow/Tara S4-S5 and Buffy/Spike S7. Expanding the notion of "relationship" beyond the romantic or sexual kind, I'd say the Scoobies as a unit. Followed by Buffy & Giles.
a character I'd die defending: Dawn. Oh Dawn. Poor kid. She is a much better person than I was at that age. That's all I'm saying.
a character I just can't sympathize with Angel. I come around to him more on his own show. I like the Buffy/Angel romance as a story for Buffy, but it casts him in a pretty bad light.
a character I grew to love Um, can I say Buffy again? Because I was all about Willow the first time I watched (see above RE Issues) and only realized that BUFFY IS MY FAVORITE later on. OK, I'll say Spike. I was indifferent to him till, I dunno, Season 5?
my anti otp I mean, people can ship whoever they want. That's fine! I do not judge. But I super do not ship Buffy/Giles. Actually, I'm going to be more bold and say I super do not ship Buffy/Soulless-Spike. There! I said it.

on 7/6/13 11:28 pm (UTC)I liked Dawn. I do sympathize with people judging her lacking as a character and not a 14 year old actual person, but her hair was so shiny.

ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME.
Just kidding. Apparently I am not actually willing to die to defend her. Or even put in a real effort at all. Yes, her hair is quite shiny! ;) I actually think she's sort of adorable. But I think that about most BtVS characters.

on 7/6/13 10:13 pm (UTC)my favourite male character: Huh. Maybe David/Charming, because he's always having comas and falling out of the action while his wife and daughter get shit done? I definitely find Rumple to be the most entertaining in his own right, though.
my favourite book/season/etc. The first half of season 2 was magical and lovely. MORE OF THAT PLEASE.
my favourite episode I liked the S1 finale a lot. Also "The Miller's Daughter". And Ruby's S1 episode, "Red-Handed". I also really enjoyed the Rumple-backstory episode in S1 that showed how he didn't want to send Bael off to war. I don't remember what it was called.
my favourite cast member Ah, I don't know anything about any of them! So I will say Ginnifer Goodwin because of her haircut that highlights, rather than hides, her adorable ears.
my favourite relationship: Mulan/Aurora!! I am so all about this ship. Also Ruby/Belle. <3 <3 <3
a character I'd die defending: Henry! Just kidding. No one, really. I think I'm more critical of Regina and Rumple than the majority of OUaT fandom, though I like both of them.
a character I just can't sympathize with Again, I can't really think of anyone. I know a lot of fans can't stand Neal, August, or Henry, but I'm fine with them! OK, instead of a character, how about a concept: Snow White's Pure Heart (which is now Impure). That annoys me. I'd like to see a bit more deconstruction of the notion of Essential Goodness. The show does a decent job deconstructing Essential Evil, but not so much the other one.
a character I grew to love Snow/Mary Margaret.
my anti otp Where do I start? Oh, I know: Rumple/Belle. Followed closely by Emma/Neal. So, you know, two of the three main current relationships (or potential ones) on the show. D-: And while I'm at it, how about Aurora/Phillip, or EVEN WORSE, Mulan/Phillip. (A threesome is OK, I guess.) I am in this show for the femslash, OK? Though I'm not big on Swan Queen. But I don't judge people who are, and I enjoy a good Swan Queen vid as much as the next person.

on 9/6/13 10:40 pm (UTC)my favourite male character: Felix! He has such a big heart! And an amazing apartment*. I love his relationship with Sarah. Honestly, I'm not as enamoured of his relationship with Allison as a lot of fandom seems to be...I think he's very kind and sweet to her, which is awesome of him, but she seems to want him to be her feisty gay BFF and that is not a trope I like. I think the show is aware of it?
my favourite book/season/etc: Season 1!
my favourite episode: Huh. All the episodes are running together in my head. I don't know!
my favourite cast member: The guy who plays the guy with the tail, for sure. No way, obvs it's Tatiana Maslaney! For her awesome acting and her awersome-seemingness.
my favourite relationship: Romantic? Felix/Colin. Colin is such a weirdo! I want to see more of them. General? Sarah and Felix. I love how they tease each other, care for each other, and protect each other.
a character I'd die defending: Um, none. I haven't seen any character hated by fandom yet. The closest I've seen is Paul, and I'm not budging a pinky for that guy, even if I dislike him less than many, perhaps.
a character I just can't sympathize with: Um, Paul? Leekie? Tomas? Though they hold my interest, especially Paul who is about as much of a wild card as Helena. Also, Delphine. I still don't trust her. She has very pretty hair though. Whenever she's on screen I think about how if I flipped my hair around as much as she does it would get all frizzy and bits of it would lose their curl.
a character I grew to love :Allison. I disliked her at first, but she's a fun character who is good at disturbing me and making me laugh and earning my sympathy too.
my anti otp: Sarah/Paul. I'm fine with her being sexually attracted to him, but I really don't want them to have a romance of any kind. I'm also kind of ambivalent about Cosima/Delphine. They are adorable! But see above RE: mistrust.
*Seriously, right up there with Mars Investigations and The Magic Box as Favorite Set Ever.

on 14/6/13 04:33 pm (UTC)Good point that Felix sees Sarah in Allison -- I agree. I think that's part of why he's so kind to her. Plus he just has a great big heart.
Yeah, they don't fit in each other's world at all, but I still sometimes think Allison sees that dynamic in their relationship. I mean, I doubt, even in crisis, she would normally ask a friend to help her "put on [her] face."
Xena
on 9/6/13 11:10 pm (UTC)my favourite male character: Autolycus. I don't know why I love him but I do! Also, Joxer when he's being taken seriously (by the characters and the show).
my favourite book/season/etc: Season 6, I think. I really liked S4 because of the Caesar arc.
my favourite episode: The Ides of March. I loved the buildup, I loved Xena and Gabrielle's moments together, I loved Gabrielle's murderous rampage. It was also a nice climax of Gabrielle's "grappling with pacifism" arc, which worked surprisingly well for me. Runners up: Many Happy Returns, The Ring trilogy, probably a bunch of others I'm forgetting right now.
my favourite cast member: Well, Lucy Lawless is the only one I know anything about. Her recent tweets about a Xena movie make me smile, so she's a good one to go with. Plus she does (NGO-sponsored) direct action, which is kind of cool.
my favourite relationship: Xena/Gabrielle. My favorite couple ever. Oh my heart. I am all for polyamorous Xena/Gabrielle, BTW, especially in the first few seasons.
a character I'd die defending: None. I don't get why fandom hates Akemi so much, though. What happened doesn't strike me as any more her fault than it is Xena's (which is to say, sort of but not really, she couldn't have known what would happen).
a character I just can't sympathize with: Brutus and Marc Antony. Or Caesar, but I don't think I'm supposed to? My favorite moments for all three of those guys is when they die. Not because they were bad characters, but because I hated them and it was so satisfying, especially the manners in which they died. Those dudes really worked up my bloodlust, apparently. Normally it's pretty weak.
a character I grew to love: Xena. I didn't dislike her at first, but I was kinda lukewarm. Now she is one of my favorite characters ever. I love watching her be the best, smartest, toughest one ever all the time. It's so rare for there to even be pretend tension about whether she will win. And the looks she gives Gabrielle! To die for. And her battle-cry, and her battle-face. <3 <3 Xena.
my anti otp: I guess Xena/Ares. But even there I think there is attraction on Xena's side, but beyond that...it's just totally out of character? Oh, and that time when Gabrielle started acting like she had a crush on Joxer when he stopped liking her? That was weird.

Yeah, I suppose there were jealousies in that season 6 episode about hell, and "Antony and Cleopatra" in season 5 felt uncomfortably out of place in the middle of a season about settling down together and raising a baby. So maybe they later worked out (or should have worked out) a more exclusive relationship.

♥♥♥♥

I swear Xena's type (with the exception of two romances they never sold me on -- Hercules and Ulysses) can be summarized as "bad boys and good girls". And since Ares is the personification of the things that tempt Xena most, it makes sense to me?
Oh, and that time when Gabrielle started acting like she had a crush on Joxer when he stopped liking her? That was weird.
o_O I either wiped that episode from my mind, or interpreted it as not so much a crush as feelings of hurt that her follower had shifted his worship to someone else(?), because I don't remember this happening at all.
Re: Xena
on 14/6/13 04:43 pm (UTC)Yeah, that was kinda weird! Mostly the jealous moments made me chuckle because the two are just so clearly devoted to each other, it's hard to see Ares or Antony or what have you coming between them. I did sorta love how the camera always made sure to show Gabrielle's reaction when Xena was romancing Antony.

Interesting! Though it more makes sense to me as a sexual attraction, or, like you say, a temptation. Like, Xena knows she wouldn't actually be happy with Ares or some other bad boy. Even if they appeal to her in certain ways.

Heh, hopefully I was just overinterpreting it! Either way I was annoyed with Gabrielle. It happens from time to time. :)
