Ursula K Le Guin

 For the last ten years or so, every time I’ve seen Ursula K Le Guin’s name in the news, I’ve had a jolt of fear that she’d died. It snuck up on me this morning, reading Dreamwidth bleary-eyed over my coffee. I’d like to write a proper post about how much her writing has meant to me, but for now I just want to mark the moment. I wonder what is happening at her beloved Powells in Portland today. I wish I could be there for it.

One of the last times we went to hear her speak, it was with the worry that it might be the last. It wasn't the last, as it turned out, but there was always that echo of feeling, these last years. Along with the absolute conviction, somehow, that she'd be here offering commentary forever.

So many of us feeling her loss today.

I can only imagine. I never met her or saw her speak, so the only parts of her I got to know know -- her writing -- are still here. Hugs to you.
