30 days of vidding: days 1-3
6 October 2013 05:50 pmTwo days ago I mentioned that I wanted to do that 30 days of posting thing...and then I failed to post the very next day. I blame weekends. Anyway, I decided I'd make use of an old vidding meme I dug up to help me on days when I don't otherwise have a substantive post in me.
Day 1: How did you first get into vidding, and what was the first fandom you vidded? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I was active in a tiny corner of the fandom for a couple of years after I first watched the show, and it was there that I learned about vids. I'd listened to songs that reminded me of the show before, and even made playlists of such songs (I only learned recently that this is what people mean by fanmixes -- turns out that was my first fannish creation!). But it didn't occur to me to make vids for a while. A turning point was that I started to feel saturated with meta and discussion, but my fannish enthusiasm for the show was nowhere near sated. Then I saw
obsessive24's Bachelorette. I watched it over and over. I was amazed by how much it said about the show, and I fell in love with finding ways to use music and visuals to say something about these characters that I loved so much. And yeah, it was my love for the show that got me vidding. I think maybe if I'd known at the time how many Buffy vids there are, I might not have started. So I'm glad I was pretty unexposed to the vidding world when I started.
Day 2: Name the fandoms you've vidded in, how many vids you've made in each fandom, and whether you plan to vid in them again.
Angel: I've made one, I'm hoping to make 2-4 more.
The Black Stallion: I've made one, I have no plans to make more.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: I've made five, and I'm planning at least one more.
Elementary: I've made one. I'm open to the possibility of another, but I don't have any plans.
Whale Rider: I've made one, I probably won't make another.
Day 3: For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to vid?
Um, I'm gonna N/A most of these. My favorite character to vid thus far is Buffy. Because 1) she's my favorite character period. 2) She's got a lot of footage. Just about anything I want to show, there's footage for it. 3) She's expressive and fun.
I also liked vidding Sherlock, also because of the expressiveness.
