I think this might be the most fun I've ever had making a vid. Which doesn't mean it's my favorite vid I've made, but I sure enjoyed making it. I think in part because making the vid coincided with feeling pretty enthusiastically fannish about this show, and about this pairing specifically.
Can you hear me calling
Out your name
You know that I'm falling
And I don't know what to say
I'll speak a little louder
I'll even shout
You know that I'm pround
And I can't get the words out
Oh I...
I want to be with you everywhere
Oh I...
I want to be with you everywhere
(Wanna be with you everywhere)
Something's happening
Happening to me
My friends say I'm acting peculiarly
C'mon baby
We better make a start
You better make it soon
Before you break my heart
Oh I...
I want to be with you everywhere
Oh I...
I want to be with you everywhere
(Wanna be with you everywhere)
Can you hear me calling
Out your name
You know that I'm falling
And I don't know what to say
Come along baby
We better make a start
You better make it soon
Before you break my heart
Oh I...
I want to be with you everywhere
Oh I...
I want to be with you everywhere
Oh I...
I want to be with you everywhere

Yeah, Xena, and X/G specifically makes me super happy. My friend Lake Desire and I basically giggle with joy through most of their scenes, so I wanted this to represent that. I'm glad it worked for you!

IT IS TOTALLY FPREG. Though not in quite the way it comes across in the vid. In this case, one could argue that canon is more queer than what's shown in this vid, actually...such is Xena.
(And I'm glad the dual-POV came through, even not knowing the show! I wanted this song as a Xena vid for a while, but I was a little concerned about lyric mismatch before I realized it was totally a dual-POV vid.)

I just watched Xena for the first time in the last 18 months or so. It's totally cracktastic with a lot of heart to boot. plus, funnily enough, it explores pacifism in a way that really works for me -- I find most movies and shows that go into that theme to be preachy and simplistic, but somehow on Xena I find it interesting. YMMV, obviously.
Anyway, despite it being incredibly cheesy and often feeling oh-so-very 90's, it's worked its way into my heart and I'd rank among my favorite shows.

This vid seems to be saying a lot, and I don't entirely follow all of it. I mean, obviously it is saying Gabrielle/Xena forever and following their lives growing together, but with the opening with Xena's warlord past, the development of Gabrielle's staff fighting, the violence and the dancing and the subsequent section in which Gabrielle's increased violence is highlighted... it's clearly saying something more detailed than a simple "yay", but I'm not entirely sure what that is? It's powerfully presented -- this is a very visceral vid -- and its focus intrigues me.

I love the rhythm of the sequence at 1:49 with Xena's fighting mixing with Gabrielle's dancing becoming Gabrielle's fighting too and both of them dancing as they balance out.
OMG, it makes me so happy that you noticed and liked this. I was super excited about the idea as it developed but then I wondered if anyone would actually pick up on it. :D
the dance from the hell episode used as a moment of intimacy as well as sensuality? Unexpected, and it works very well in that lovely section.
Thank you! That is 5% clip choice -- the hands on the face is more intimate than most of what they do that scene -- and 95% Premiere's awesome "film dissolve" transition. The cut from the previous clip to the Hellish Sexytiems clip was pretty jarring before that.
In fact, if I could only say one thing about the technical process of making this vid, I would say that I discovered and fell in love with Premiere's "film dissolve".
About what the vid is saying -- I don't think it has, like, a thesis or anything (beyond "yay them!"), but a few aspects of the song, "I've fallen and I don't know what to say", and "before you break my heart" seemed ripe for re-interpretation where Xena/Gab are concerned. I think the song lyrics are using those words in pretty conventionally romantic terms. But I wanted to re-interpret "fallen" primarily in terms of Xena's evil past. With Gabrielle at her side she can pull herself up, so that's the positive side of it.
And for the "break my heart" line, I wanted at least hint at what it means to both of them that Gabrielle eventually rejects pacifism, at least for herself. I think they both recognize it's the right choice, but I think it also breaks both of their hearts a little. Initially I actually had a different clip for the first "break my heart" that tried to get at that more, but it was pretty symbolic and not at all straightforward and I didn't think it actually conveyed what I wanted to convey. So I replaced it with clips of Xena leaving Gab behind, since that's a source of stress and anxiety for Gab, especially in those early years.
A big part of what I love about their relationship -- besides the fantastic chemistry and incessant declarations of love -- is how bound up it is with their quest to make the world a better place. And their constant struggle to figure out how that should be done. The "how" question is a bigger part of Gabrielle's arc than Xena's, but it's relevant for both of them. So I did want to get at that a little, though it wasn't the main point of the vid.

Em, if you want I'd be happy to make you a short list of my favorite stand-alone eps. :D There are two in particular (from different seasons) that together give a nice flavor of what the show is all about.

If you have time for one or two more, try S1's "Callisto" and S2's "Return of Callisto". They're not a two-parter, so you can watch the first without the second.
On second thought, the pilot is also lots of campy fun and provides a nice intro to the two main characters.

I've had this open in tabs for a while and I finally got a chance to watch it. I LOVE IT. I also love how it's not only a Xena/Gabrielle vid but it's also sekretly a vid about how Gabrielle learns to fight (though I miss her long hair!). Xena and Gabrielle are so great. <3

If you like podcasts, you might enjoy watching with Xena Warrior Podcast. They're currently in Season 4, and while they allude to later events in the series they're not spoilery.
