1. goodbyebird iconned Xena: Warrior Princess! I have heart-eyes for these and will be grabbing some if/when I get my paid account back*.

I have exactly 100 icons. There are a few that I really want to add. But I don't know if I'm up for deleting any current ones, and I'm kinda reluctant to step down that slippery slope of buying extra icon spaces. When will it ever stop? Why do you icon makers have to be so damn talented?

Why is iconning so much harder than vidding?

Maybe I have no internal sense of composition. I know I rarely brighten my icons enough. Also, with vidding I'm much more excited to learn the technical skills needed to do a decent job. When I icon I just want to hurry up and have something good without having to look at photoshop tutorials or whatnot.

Anyway, I've forever wanted an Anya "I'm so pleased" icon because that phrase, with her voice saying it, is always in my head. So I made a couple today and they are meh. It's hard to see her face -- 100x100 is so tiny! But if I cropped more you wouldn't see the money and her funny hand gestures.

ETA:

I'm not fishing for complements! If anything, I'm fishing for patient explanations as to what I'm doing wrong. Maybe it's my cap choice.

(BTW, that first one uses a texture that someone else made -- goodbyebird, was that you? I'm sorry I didn't take note to properly give credit! Not that I'm doing much with these.)

ETA: I worked a bit more on the second one -- brightening it up around her face, fiddling with the background, tilting the text, and I do like this better. Huh.

So many amazing icon-makers, so little space. All I want is like 500 icons and ways to use all of them all the time because they are gorgeous.

(And now I have no idea how I'm gonna choose the icon for this post. Might go with random. OK I went with one of the many I hang onto because I <3 it even though I never get a chance to use it.)

ETA: it occurs to me I could alleviate this "problem" somewhat by posting and commenting more...

Trying to prepare a PhD defense while overwhelmed with anger and heartbreak over the George Zimmerman verdict has been...weird. I mostly have dealt by not posting much here or on facebook etc.

But then I made a thing! To celebrate my new favorite villain, Gustavo Fring of Breaking Bad.

I finished a draft of my thesis! So now I'm gonna let it percolate a day or two, make some final revisions Thursday and Friday, and send it off to my committee!

Also, my photoshop trial is about to expire. So I spent the afternoon making BtVS icons. I was partially inspired by some recent conversations between red_satin_doll, kikimay (from whom I got the text in the second icon), and others about women and their relationships with each other. Particularly Tara and Dawn and their relationships with Buffy. It got me excited again about the Tara vid idea that's been brewing for a while now. (Hey, now it has a tag! That means it'll fersher get made, right???) But between thesis writing and a hopeful Elementary vid and Sekrit Vid, that'll be a while. So here are some icons in the meantime!

Icons galore!

I spent the day finding and making icons, then switching out a bunch of old ones for shiny new ones. Because what else would I do when I have to defend my thesis in five months, finish results and write them up in an article, and respond to reviews on my previous article?

I'm posting here some of the icons I made! I'm not really anticipating anyone wants to take any, but feel free to do so! (with credit, please?) I'm mostly just posting for my own satisfaction, and maybe to get a little concrit/feedback? Though honestly I'm not nearly so gung-ho about improving my icon-making as I am about improving my vidding. It's mostly just a fun distraction. That said, concrit & feedback are 100% welcome and appreciated.

ETA: also, happy Galentine's Day!!! I didn't make any gifts. Hopefully I'll do it next year, now that I know about it more than three weeks in advance. Or maybe by then I'll be good enough at icons that I can make them as gifts! :D

snowflake_challenge Day 9: In your own space, create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I started the day with a (likely) diagnosis of whooping cough. Fun fact: the "whooping" is the sound you make when you've coughed all the air out of your lungs and you're gasping for breath. Also: turns out vaccinations don't always work.

So, finally convinced that I Really Am Sick, I went home and spent the afternoon in bed practicing icon-making. Here's what I got! A few of these are ideas I got from other icons I've seen, though I don't remember where. If anyone is the original maker and is offended or wants credit, please let me know.

( I still don't really know what I'm doing, but it's fun anyway )
