Day 5: If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a vid, what did you do about it?
I can't say that I have. I am currently discussing with red_satin_doll the awkwardness of including Warren in my Willow vid, but that was intentional. The basic idea of the vid was to highlight their similarities, to use Warren as a foil for Willow. I just didn't execute as well as I'd have liked, partly by dropping Warren in unexpectedly halfway through.
Day 6: When you vid, do you like vidding a certain kind of male or female archetype? (Credit to dualbunny for that one!)
Huh. I don't think so? I certainly know I'm drawn to certain archetypes when I watch -- most predictably, the Sidekick, but also the Ordinary Person Thrown Into Extraordinary Circumstances and certain types of rebels. (Though that's a tricky one -- plenty of TV Rebels annoy the shit out of me.)
I'm more confident saying that, all else being equal, I'm a lot more interested in pretty much any archetypal character if they're not a cis white dude.
But I'm not sure any of that has obviously translated in my vidding, at least not yet.
Day 7: Have you ever had a vid (of yours) change your opinion of a character?
Well, "Maybe Sparrow" was meant to be a criticism of Wesley, and Angel writers' overidentification with same, but I think I ended up having a bit more sympathy for him. Only a bit, though.
"Burn the Mazes" helped me detox on my Willow Issues. I can love the girl again now.
"A Thousand Miles" may have given me some Joan/Sherlock shippery feels...at least a few times.
( Complete list of questions. )
( Maybe if I use Cinelerra and don't have to clip I can make these? Maybe???? )
Tonight I'm going to try and get a friend hooked on Buffy. So, time for a poll!
If you were trying to introduce someone to BtVS and only had 2-3 episodes to show them, what would you choose?
Welcome to the Hellmouth, The Harvest, and The Witch, of course!
A couple of the better S1 episodes, like Angel and Prophecy Girl
The beginning of the Angel arc: Angel, Lie to Me
A few good standalones from any point in the series (e.g., Hush)
Other. I will tell you!
If you picked "other", what do you recommend?
Also I'm in the middle of season 2 of Breaking Bad. More words to come!
